Itinerary
- Meet outside the Old Train Station at 9:30 – Accessible by many bus lines including 71,72,74,75 and more.
- Givat HaTanach – a small island of undeveloped land in the heart of Jerusalem. This was part of the ancient road that went from Be’er Sheva in the south till Shchem in the north. It is the very road that all of the Avos walked on when traveling through the country. And the very road used by Jews in ancient times to visit Jerusalem during Aliya L’Regel and throughout the year.
- Walk through the Ben Hinnom Valley – This valley is mentioned many times in Tanach as a place where the Bnei Yisrael served the Molech. Because of this horrible history, Gehennom got it’s name from this place! Today it is a beautiful park. We will take a short hike through this valley till it meets up with the Kidron Valley where we will…
- Visit the Shiloach Pool – For 2,000 years the location of this important site was unknown. In 2004 archeologists accidentally discovered the original Shiloach pool. This was the main mikveh used by Olei Regel to immerse before ascending to the Beis Hamikdosh. It was also where they took the water for the Parah Adumah.
- Ascend the Olei Regel Road – This first opened to the public in 2011. Archeologist have dug up the original road from the Second Temple period that leads from the Shiloach Pool up to the Har Habayis. Today it is a tunnel which leads back to the entrance of Ir David and then continues up to the Southern Wall Excavations.
- Short break at the visitor’s center of Ir David – We will take a short break for refreshments at the visitor’s center of Ir David which sits right over the ruins of the Palace of Dovid Hamelech! We will then return to the tunnel to complete our ascent towards the walls of the Temple Mount.
- The Southern Wall excavations – The tour ends with a tour of the Southern Wall Excavations where we will see the original steps that led up to the Temple, the Hulda Gates and more.
- Finish at the Kotel plaza at 1:30
