OK, IT’S AN INTERESTING STATUE AND THE LOCATION MAKES IT, BUT I WOULDNT’ WANT TO BE EATING MY LUNCH AND GAZING AT THAT BLOODY HEAD….I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE PHOTOS POSTED FROM YOUR TOURS!
Don’t worry. The Tower of David is a sort of Museum in an archaeological site. Lunch is usually elsewhere!
This statue was immediately familiar to me. The original is in the National Museum in Florence. It was cast in bronze in the 15th century, crafted by the artist Verrocchio commissioned by the Medici’s. I like to see art (even if it is a copy) in Israel. The country has something for everyone! Next time I am at the Museum I will look for this beautiful statue. Is Michaelangelo’s David coming to a site in Israel soon?
Thanks! I didn’t know the story behind it. I was just struck by the sense of boyish cockiness and at the same time innocence it portrayed.
